Jack 'N' Jill competitions

In a Jack 'n' Jill, dancers are judged on their ability to lead/follow. Dancers are expected to dance swing. You enter as an individual and you don't know who your partner will be; it's completely random and great fun!

In 2017, AJC will feature two Jack 'n' Jill divisions, aimed at dancers with different levels of skill/experience/confidence. There are no specific eligibility pre-requisites for either division (eg. previous competition wins), and AJC organizers will not monitor entrants' qualifications. Entry to these divisions is by self-selection. Dancers should consider the description of each division and decide which one best suits them. Dancers cannot enter both divisions. Entrants in the Advanced Jack 'n' Jill cannot dance in the AJC Jack 'n' Jill.

Advanced Jack 'n' Jill

This Jack ’n’ Jill division is aimed at advanced dancers. Anyone who dances swing at an advanced level may enter. This will be a true demonstration of the greatest in lead and follow swing dancing. Get set for inspiration and entertainment.

Eligibility restrictions: dancers who are registered for the Advanced Jack 'n' Jill (see above) are not eligible to enter the AJC Jack 'n' Jill.

Please note: There are 20 lead places and 20 follow places available in the AJC Jack 'n' Jill heats. Places will be filled on a first come first served basis, so get in quickly! Should there be an imbalance in the number of leads and follows registered, some entrants may be asked to dance in multiple heats.

BPM Range: 140 to 200bpm
Heats: dance to 3 tracks (DJ music) of various tempos with a different randomly allocated partner each time, each dance will be an all-skate.
Leads and Follows will be judged separately. We anticipate 5 or 6 Follows and 5 or 6 Leads selected for the Final (depending on the "natural break" provided by the Relative Placement Adjudication System.)
Finals: The finals are in an all-skate format, danced to the live band.
All Leads will dance with all Follows.
You will dance two choruses with each partner (8 phrases) before the band launches into a short interlude to change partners.
Competition Marshals will help ensure dancers rotate correctly.
Leads and Follows will be judged individually.
