NOTE:The final night of Swing Patrol Club Maxie’s for 2024 is Friday 6 December. After the summer break, we’ll return on Friday 14 February 2025.
Club Maxie’s is a fortnightly social swing dancing event, with a focus on Balboa and Collegiate Shag. The music is ideal for those who want some pep in their swing step, with the occasional drop in tempo to get your Slow Dance on.
7.00pm – Level 1 Balboa
Drop in any week, all welcome! No partner required. No experience necessary! Learn the basics of Balboa and be dancing in no time!

9.00 – 11pm – Social Dancing
Great DJ music, slick floor, cheap drinks at the bar (cash or card accepted), room to sit and socialise between dances.
In this “post Covid world” we can no longer share pizza, but we can have a drink and a dance!

The music will be general swing with a Balboa and Shag edge. Basie, Goodman, Shaw and some current bands like Campus Five, Tuba Skinny, Michael McQuaid’s Red Hot Rhythm Makers to name a few.
Not necessarily. Balboa and Shag, like Lindy Hop (or any dance) can be fast, slow and everything in-between. There will be a wide range of speeds, though you might find the majority of the music for social dancing skews a little faster than you’d expect in a Lindy Hop class.
Sure! We’re not the dance police; there are no restrictions on what you dance. Just come and dance!
