Lindy Friday is a monthly, beginner-friendly social dance, welcoming new dancers to the social floor and the whole community to share the floor with them.
The evening starts with a lesson designed to give newcomers a few moves for the dance floor, and more experienced dancers the chance to warm up their feet, meet new people and even practice their non-dominant dance role.

7.00 – 8.00pm: Beginner-friendly Lindy Hop lesson
Casual, drop-in class, all welcome! No bookings – pay at the door. No partner required. No experience necessary. Learn the basics and be dancing in no time!

In 2026, we’re excited to offer Lindy Friday at THREE great locations:

Upstairs Studio at Dancehouse, 150 Princes St. Carlton North 3054  – the traditional home of Lindy Friday

Tango Esencia, 327 Swan St. Richmond 3121 – the original home of Swing Patrol’s Friday socials, Fun Pit (early 2000s) and of Swing Patrol’s Balboa classes (BalPit / Richmond Balboa)

Forever Dance, Level 1/432 Church St. Richmond 3121 – for years this was the go-to location for Friday night socials and festival late nights, and, in July 2025, hosted one of our biggest ever Lindy Fridays

Throughout the year, we’ll be dancing in these three beautiful studios, all with glorious wooden floors. In order to bring you Lindy Friday every month, and to spread the Lindy Hop love further across Melbourne, we’ll be mixing it up between these three locations. Once a month may not be the optimum way to learn, so you might want to explore additional classes to accelerate your swing dance journey. But one of the best – and most fun – ways to improve as a dancer is to dance! Stick around after the lesson for social dancing 8 – 10.30pm. It’s a fantastic opportunity to reinforce what you’ve learned, connect with fellow dancers, be inspired by others and enjoy great swing music.
