Summer in the city means swing dancing in the streets. Spread the swing word in the great outdoors.
Swing Patrol has a long tradition of taking it to the streets for public exhibitions and lessons to introduce the world (or our own corner of it) to swing dancing. From the Melbourne Zoo to a plinth in Trafalgar Square, so many people’s first encounter with swing is in a public space with vibrant, passionate Swing Patrol dancers. Be part of the fun, soak up some sun, show off the dance and build a bigger, brighter swing community.

Big Band Sunsets Festival
Saturdays 1st, 8th and 22nd February, 6.30pm – 7.00pm @ Hazel Pierce Reserve, cnr Nepean H’way & Beach Rd, Mordialloc
Swing Patrol is excited to be involved with this long-running family-friendly event. Four Saturdays in February, each featuring a variety of big bands, playing live on the Mordi foreshore. Bring a picnic along and enjoy the whole afternoon’s entertainment, free every week.
Each Saturday evening in February, Swing Patrol teachers will offer a free dance lesson, just prior to the headliners, Mordialloc Jazz Orchestra, hitting the stage. Fun, achievable and inclusive, with a few moves to get you swinging to the bands.
NOTE: Saturday 15 Feb session has been cancelled due to weather concerns.

St Kilda Festival
Sunday 16 February, 3pm – 5pm @ Clocktower on St Kilda Esplanade
Swing Patrol returns to this iconic Melbourne street party, providing free lessons and entertainment for festival-goers. And we’re back again at our favourite spot, in front of the Clocktower on the Upper Esplanade. Anchored by Sarah Wheaton & Josh Varcoe (SP Melbourne CBD), with social dancing and performances by The Bluebelles and Shout! Join us for a dance, and an ice-cream.

Saturday 8 March, 5.30pm – 7.00pm @ Dance Hub, Speakers Corner – Birrarung Marr
We are delighted to again be invited to be part of this celebrated summer festival. With Swing Patrol founder and director Scott Cupit anchoring proceedings, we’ll have free, fun & friendly dance lessons, jam sessions, Shim Shams, performances, and social dancing. Come and spend some of your long weekend in the gardens with us.
