Much to the chagrin of his teacher, Dave didn’t take up ballet at age 9, but he did enjoy basic rock ’n’ roll lessons in mid-winter gym classes at age 13 (“Thanks Mr Woodroffe!“). We suspect it’s probably the experience of doing a couple of class routines at the local Westfield Shoppingtown when he also caught the performance bug … but that’s another story.
Jumping forward a number of dance-less years to 1999 when a friend (“Thanks Kath!“) showed him Swingers, but at that time there were no classes in Adelaide that Dave could join, so he had to wait until he moved to Melbourne in 2001. And then the dancing started. EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT … well, for a while at least – who can maintain both a day job, AND that level of intensity for more than a couple of years at a time?!
Lindy, Charleston, Balboa, Shag, performance troupes, competitions, workshops, weekly classes … he’s had a blast being involved in all of these things on and off for the last 2 decades, and now he’d like nothing better than to help others start their swing dancing journey, especially when people aren’t looking to have dance define their life, but just to enrich it!
We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we dance. Swing Patrol operates on the traditional lands of the Boon Wurrung, Wathaurung and Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present.
