Swing Dance is an umbrella term that covers a variety of dances, danced to swing music. In this “Choose Your Own Adventure” workshop, you can taste a new swing dance style, or a couple, or spend the whole afternoon playing in the swing dance sand box. Ideal for those brand new to swing dancing – in just one afternoon, sample the main dances taught at Swing Patrol classes. Also great for dancers with experience in one style and now keen to learn others, for those refreshing the basics, or for exploring your non-dominant role. All sessions are suitable for beginners,
LEAD OR FOLLOW: In each session, we will be teaching partnered swing dances. You will be required to book as either a Lead or a Follow. The Lead “directs” the dance, indicating or instigating the moves and the direction. The Follower responds to the lead, interprets the moves, and has room to add personal styling/embellishments. Like jazz/swing music, it’s seen as a “call & response” partnership. Choose whichever role you wish. Yes, you can book for a different role in different sessions. Pair Passes are available (for 1 x Lead and 1 x Follow) for ease of booking, though we change partners throughout the workshop for a better learning experience.
