Swing dancers around the world will be celebrating World Lindy Hop Day on May 26th with a global Shim Sham video, and you’re all invited to come learn the routine with us and take part in the Sydney filming of this iconic solo jazz routine.
We’ll be teaching the classic Shim Sham in a class that’s suitable for beginners learning it for the first time, as well as old hands wanting to brush up before Sunday.
Then come on down to the Harbour on Sunday 26th May at 12.15pm where we’ll do a huge Shim Sham which will be filmed and shared with the world. Full details of the filming can be found here.
The Shim Sham is a famous solo jazz routine that you’ll often see danced at socials – the song will start and people will rush to the floor to perform together. Solo jazz dancing is not only fun, but it also makes your partnered dancing better, gives you more stylings to play with and is a great way to really connect to the music.
Do one class or do both, the choice is yours.
6.30pm – regular level 1 6-beat swing class
7.45pm – special Shim Sham class

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we gather and dance. Swing Patrol operates on the traditional lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging. Always was – always will be – aboriginal land.
We’ll be closed over the Christmas/New Years break, but never fear! We’ll be resuming classes every Tuesday from 6.30PM, Tuesday 6th Febuary 2024.
We look forward to dancing with you then!
North Sydney is closed for new students while we finish off our performance routine, but we’ll be back to regular, weekly drop-in classes for everyone from Tuesday the 22nd August 2023.
We look forward to dancing with you then!
